What languages is your website available in ? The Speakmania website is available in English, Espanol, and Francais, to further help our foreign members.
You can easily change the information in your profile, by logging into Speakmania and clicking upon the “My Profile” link near the top of the page. Please be aware that each time your profile is changed, it is placed into the mode of approval, so that our administrators can approve your profile.
If you change your email, you will need to confirm the address via the confirmation email that is sent to you, after the change.
How do I add a picture to my profile ? To add a picture to your profile, log into Speakmania, click on “Add a photo to your profile” that is located on the Speakmania homepage. You can add up to four photographs of yourself. These photos must be in .jpg, .gif, or .png format.
Do you provide translation services ? We do provide members of Speakmania with a free website translation service. This service offers translation in 35 different ways. If you need to use the translator, visit the Speakmania homepage (link at the top of your screen), and click on the link “need a translator”. To translate any of the listed languages, simply type any words in the language you wish to translate from and it will translate the word(s) into any language that you specified.
FINDING A PENPAL How do I start finding a penpal ? With Speakmania it is easy to find a penpal from any country and that speaks any language worldwide. We have a wide variety of features that will enable you to find yourself one or more penpals at any time. You can use our chat features, Instant Messaging features, search and search by nickname features.
How do I use the Search by Nickname Feature ? The Search by Nickname feature offered on our language exchange is simple and quick to use. Simply visit the homepage and click on the Search by Nickname link. Once there, enter the nickname of the member you would like to find, then click on search. For your convenience, our system compiles 10 random profiles, this should really help in finding a new penpal.
How do I add friends to my friends list ? Adding a penpal to your friends list is fast and easy. When you visit the profile of someone that interests you, you will notice an icon that says “add to your friends list”. Click upon the link and you will see a pop-up notification letting you know the penpal was successfully added to your list. Now you can access your penpal's profile at anytime, you will see their name listed on the left hand menu, under “My friends”. If they are online their name will appear in orange.
How do I delete a friend from my friends list ? If you need to delete a penpal from your friends list, simply visit their profile and click the link that says “delete from friends”.
READING AND WRITING MESSAGES Will I be notified if I receive a new message ? Yes, when you receive a new message from a Speakmania member, our system will send you an email with the subject title, “New message pending”. The email will let you know who sent the message, provide a link to their profile, and a convenient link to log into your account. Additionally, when you log into your account at Speakmania, if you have any new messages, you will notice that the senders name appears under the “My messages” title on the left hand side.
You can read the new message by clicking upon the senders name and them history of messages.
How do I reply to new messages ? After reading the new message you will notice, in the top left hand corner, a reply link. Click upon the reply link and type your message, once finished click on the send link near the bottom of the message, to send to your penpal.
When visiting the profile of another member, if you find them interesting and wish to correspond with them it is easy to do. Simply click on the “Send Message” link and send your potential penpal a message.
Can I view the profile of the writer ? Yes, with each new message the profile of the writer can be viewed by clicking upon their photograph or their country symbol.
Can I review my message history ? Yes, when you click on “My messages”, you will see a link to view your message history with that particular person. This includes both sent and received messages.
USING INSTANT MESSENGER, AUDIO AND VIDEO How do I begin using the instant messenger ? When you visit a profile, if the user is online, you will notice the “talk to me” icon located beneath their photograph (or area where the photo should be). To begin instant messaging the user, click upon the “talk to me” icon and a window will pop up.
How do I use the instant messenger ? Once you have clicked on the “talk to me” icon, a chat window will appear on your screen. Simply type in your introduction message, such as “Hello”, “Hi, my name is Dawn”, or something similar.
How do I accept a user's instant message ? When a user is wanting to chat with you via instant messenger, you will receive a notification on your Speakmania website: If you would like talk to the user, you can simply click on “Accept” and a window will appear. If do not want to talk to the user, click on “Decline”, and the notification will disappear.
Can I customize my messages on the instant messenger ? Yes, you have the ability to change the color of your text messages. To change the color of your messages, click on the “text color” right above the send portion of the chat window. Choose any color out of the palette and begin typing.
What is Notify about Requests ? Notify about requests is an option located in “My Profile”. This tells Speakmania rather or not you wish to be notified of text messages you have received.
USING THE CHAT To enter chat click on the “Chat” link located at the top of Speakmania.
When you first enter Speakmania's chat you will enter the “Multi-Language” chat room. We offer 5 different chat rooms surrounding the languages of Multi-Language, Francais, Espanol. If you want to enter any of the chat rooms simply click upon the room you wish to join. When you click on the room, you will see a notification asking if you “would like to join this chat room”. Click on the “Click here to join this chat room” to enter it.
How do I know how many people are in the chat rooms ? You can tell how many people are in any of the chat rooms by looking at the number located next to the chat room name. For example, Multi-language may look like this “Multi language (2)” this means there are two members in that chat room at the time.
Can I customize my text color ? Yes, you can customize your text color by clicking upon the “text color” indicator above the area you type your messages. Simply choose the color you would like by clicking on it with your mouse. |
